I have Windows XP Media Center Edition version 2002 Service Pack 3 and tried to start Media Center but got an error message related to ehshell.exe. Can you help me?
This dilemma has existed since the 1st center. SP2 and SP3 had a dilemma, but obviously this is not always the case. The same issue currently exists in Vista with other XP media. A system restore would have worked, but no one has good restore points, so reinstalling the OS seems like the only viable option.
You may not want to do the best OS reinstall required for Media Center, but since it’s not available to everyone, you can read about Media Center and/or SP3 updates and then uninstall and reinstall.
Windows XP Media Center: third error code when trying to track TV ratings/records, TV, etc.
I have Windows XP TV Center, and immediately when I try anduse the main media center, I get your error code 3. The problem may not be fixed. I also tried to figure out which driver I can actually rollback or reinstall but never really knew which driver to implement. I know that there is nothing but a modem or a printer, but even after that I am lost. Any help anyone can give me would certainly be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much, Trevor S.

Ehshell.exe is almost certainly a Windows system file designed to run Microsoft Center Media Marketing. This is not a critical gadget file. However, the ehshell.exe file is infected and the errors cause it to look for certain programs. Also, if most of ehshell.exe is missing, it can cause errors. Install a clean install of ehshell of.exe using Microsoft System Restore.
Select the Start menu, and then select Programs. Scroll down and click “Accessories” and then “System Tools”. Click System Restore.
Click Next on the System Restore window to get a suggestion of restore points that have been fully backed up.
Select a restore point that was published before the ehshell.File executable was infected or deleted. If no restore point is listed for that date, click Browse other recovery issues to select one literally before this date. Click “Next” if you need to choose a restore point.
Click Finish to start System Restore. After the process is completed, the computer will restart and the ehshell.exe file will be reinstalled.

The error message can be easily resolved by doing something like disabling the launcher element in msconfig (if you still you can find it), but I suggest fixing the problem and just removing the symptom of the problem by simply deleting the message on startup.
